Program

English

The program offers a modern and practical approach to language learning, which ensures that course participants quickly improve their English skills. We work using materials carefully prepared and selected by our teachers from numerous online learning resources such as original texts, video clips, quizzes, grammar and vocabulary exercise pages that can be easily accessed by students via our own online teaching platform. We ensure that the content assigned to each proficiency level is carefully outlined in the course program, well balanced, and provides an opportunity for all students to practice the language at their skill level.

Each group is taught by two teachers so that students can experience different accents and teaching methods. We conduct periodic assessments, which show participants their progress and indicate areas for improvement. Upon successful completion of the course and achieving a passing grade from the final exam, participants receive language proficiency certificates that open doors to further education in English, at the university level.

Level A1-A2

This level is addressed to beginners with no or very basic English skills and for those needing to improve their English language competencies in order to enter a degree program at SWPS University. The aim of the program is to equip participants with elementary language skills useful in everyday life. During the course of study the participants will practice speaking, listening, reading, and writing, which will allow them to express themselves and communicate freely in English, in daily social situations.

Level B1-C1

This level is designed for intermediate users of English who need to improve their English language competencies in order to enter a degree program at SWPS University. The program focuses on equipping the participants with language and basic academic skills, necessary for successful progress through their degree program(s).

Polish

Polish classes focus on the development of all language skills, such as speaking, listening, comprehension, reading and writing. Participants learn Polish grammar, vocabulary and general language skills, indispensable at Polish universities and in daily life in Poland. Our courses are aligned with the requirements of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Apart from the language instruction, participants have an opportunity to learn about Polish history and culture, including art, film, literature, and music.

Upon completion of the basic Polish course, you will be able to communicate in everyday situations, formulate simple oral and written statements, and deal with most situations related to travelling in Poland.

Assessment

The course starts with a written and oral assessment test, which allows us to place participants in groups appropriate to their English competency. Learning at the appropriate level ensures rapid skill development and allows participants to communicate with an increasing ease and confidence.

Candidate

The courses at A1-A2 level are addressed to beginners with no or very basic English skills.

The B1-C1 level is addressed to candidates with an intermediate (at least CEFR A2) command of English. The program focuses on the development of advanced language skills (to at least CEFR B2 level) and prepares the participants for entry to university programs conducted in English.

Next Steps

English

After completing the course, you will take an exam and receive a certificate confirming the level of your language proficiency. If you meet language requirements, you may be admitted to a diploma program of your choice at SWPS University.

Course participants who by the end of the English Preparatory School do not achieve at least CEFR B2 language proficiency or those who would like to further develop their English skills, may enroll in our English Language Summer School  to ensure that they meet language competency requirements for their chosen university program of study.

Polish

At the end of the course you will take a short oral and written exam and you will receive a certificate confirming the level of your language proficiency.

Advantages

Multicultural Environment

Our language courses provide an opportunity to meet fellow students from all over the world, which fosters openness and multicultural awareness. Moreover, course participants have ample opportunities to practice English not only in class, but also in daily and informal interactions with each other, for example by attending: free lectures, seminars and conferences, sightseeing trips and cultural events, integration meetings and social events.

English Proficiency Certificates

Upon successful completion of the English Preparatory School, participants receive language proficiency certificates, which allow them to enrol in university programs taught in English. Additionally, at an extra fee, they can take international English exams, such as IELTS, TOEFL, FCE/ CAE or Lingua Skills.

Innovative Methodology and Best Lecturers

SWPS University offers unique English Language Programs with classes taught by two teachers. During the program, one teacher focuses on speaking and writing skills while the other on reading and vocabulary. These two approaches are well integrated and allow students to practice various modes of crucial communication skills. Additionally, English Preparatory School participants are exposed to different teaching methods and class management styles. Classes are varied and course participants learn something new every day. This innovative teaching methodology has proved to be very effective and appreciated by course participants.
