Profile

Dr. Justyna Sarnowska is a sociologist. In 2018, she obtained a doctoral degree at SWPS University’s Interdisciplinary Doctoral School. Her doctoral thesis Socjalizacyjna rola migracji międzynarodowych w procesie wchodzenia na rynek pracy (Socializational role of international migrations in school-to-work transition) was recognized in the Joanna Matejko competition organized by the Committee on Migration Research of Polish Academy of Science and the Fundacja Ośrodek Badań nad Migracjami (The Center for Migration Research Foundation).

Her research interests include the transition from youth to adulthood, entering the labor market, combining studying and working, and life trajectories of university graduates. She researchers the role of local and international migrations in the above-noted processes. She is Coordinator of the Youth Research Center at SWPS University.

Currently, Dr. Sarnowska is a researcher in a project “ULTRAGEN: Wchodzenie w dorosłość w czasach ultra-niepewności: międzypokoleniowa teoria 'rozedrganych' tranzycji” (ULTRAGEN: Entering adulthood in the era of ultra-uncertainty: intergenerational theory of “shaky” transitions). Previously, she contributed to research projects financed by the National Science Centre, such as: “Peer groups and migration. Education-to-domestic and- foreign labor market transitions of youth: The role of locality, peer group and new media” and “CEEYouth: The comparative study of Poles and Lithuanians in the context of Brexit”. She actively collaborates with researchers specializing in youth and migration studies, in Poland and internationally. She also collaborated with the Centre of Migration Research of the University of Warsaw.

Dr. Sarnowska participated in training sessions, internships, and fellowships at Princeton University, the University of Vienna, Erasmus University Rotterdam, the University of Essex, and the University College London. In 2014, she received the Florian Znaniecki Award granted by the Polish Sociological Association (PTS) for her Master’s thesis Strategie funkcjonowania na rynku pracy absolwentów nauk społecznych (Strategies for functioning on the job market, used by graduates of social sciences).

At SWPS University she teaches classes in methodology of social research and diversity on the job market.
