Graduates of SOF Win Prestigious Prize in Dubai

MIKO+ jewelry, designed by Ewa Dulcet and Martyna Świerczyńska, graduates of School of Form in Poznań, has been awarded the Progress Prize at the Global Grad Show in Dubai. The Show is a part of the prestigious Dubai Design Week, where 200 projects submitted by design schools and colleges from 43 countries competed for the main prize.

MIKO + Jewelry

The project has been designed around the constructs of an able and disabled body and the mechanisms of exclusion that people with various impairments face daily. MIKO + is a set of jewelry designed to be worn on the wrist, i.e. a joint in human body that is especially vulnerable to injuries due to manual work. Many people suffer from injuries or medical conditions, such as carpal tunnel, that require wrist braces. However, patients often refuse to wear splints, because it is a visible sign of their impairment. Miko+ answers the need of these patients as it combines modern design with medical functionality. The jewelry was designed in collaboration with a physiotherapist to help with the most common wrist injuries. All pieces have been produced using traditional goldsmithing techniques. The jewelry not only hides its medical function, but most of all it provides a stylish accessory and makes the user feel more elegant and attractive.

Four graduates of School of Form were invited to participate in the Global Grad Show:

  • Martyna Świerczyńska and Ewa Dulcet - MIKO+ project (domestic design)
  • Oliwia Przybyła - Inclusive Car Interface (communication design)
  • Olga Synyakevych - upper limb prosthetic socket (industrial design).
