What will you learn?

SWPS University is among top universities offering English Studies programs in Poland.

Students of English Studies with Spanish learn English and Spanish simultaneously. The English courses are taught at a higher level of competency and include linguistics, intensive language development, as well as cultural and historical background of the English speaking countries. Spanish classes, on the other hand, start at the beginner level and gradually develop language competences. The aim for students is to reach CEFR C1 English and B2 Spanish proficiency level or higher.

Who the program is addressed to?

The languages of Shakespeare and Cervantes open a door to the world of two very prolific literary traditions and diverse cultures that complement each other. If you are interested in other cultures, have a passion for learning languages and for meeting people from different cultures, the English Studies with Spanish Program at SWPS University may be the right choice for you.

Requirements: English proficiency - CEFR B2 or higher, supported by appropriate English proficiency certificates.
For holders of a Polish secondary school diploma (matura): basic level – minimum 90%, extended level – minimum 60%.

English Studies at SWPS University offer a friendly and multicultural environment, contributing to the students’ development of language and interpersonal skills as well as cross-cultural competencies. International students comprise close to twenty five per cent of the student population. Therefore, students have ample opportunities to practice English not only in class, but also in daily and informal interactions with each other.

Focus on your interests

PLEASE NOTE: Each year the particular specialisations are made available based on the number of declarations of choice submitted by students in the second semester. Therefore, we do not guarantee all specialisations will be initiated for the year of your admission.

  1. Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) – Teaching Track

    TEFL specialization prepares students for a teaching profession in a variety of educational contexts, such as: different courses, tutoring, language schools, or in the longer perspective (of M.A. studies) public schools. Students become familiar with the theory and practice of TEFL also with the use of ICT based techniques. During teaching internships, under the guidance of a coordinator, students create their own European Portfolio for Student Teachers of Languages.

  2. Cultural and Literary Studies – Cultural and Literary Track

    This track is a chance to study in depth cultural and literary texts that have shaped and reflected the living reality of the English-speaking world. It teaches the tools and methodologies needed to understand and discuss complex phenomena, focusing on developing analytical and writing skills, and the ability to formulate coherent and convincing argumentation. Topics covered in our courses include, among others, popular culture, film, and interactive narratives, literary criticism and cultural theory. Perfect for those truly interested in cultures, histories, and complexities of the English-speaking world.

  3. English for Business Environment – Business Track

    English for Business Environment is focused on teaching business English with elements of economy, marketing and public relations. Students learn about organizational structure, business management, business environment and market issues. They also become familiar with the style of business writing and learn how to develop business plans, reports and business strategy. Moreover, they gain general business skills, such as presentation or negotiation skills and learn about business code of conduct.

  4. Translation Studies – Translation Track (Polish/Englsh Translation)

    Translation Studies focus on translation theory and practice and on intensive language skills development. All courses are taught by experienced translators and linguists. Students become familiar with the requirements of general and specialized translation. They practice various translation methods and techniques employed in written and oral translation. All translation courses are developed in accordance with the guidelines of the European Union’s Directorate-General for Translation.
    PLEASE NOTE: We focus on English to Polish and Polish to English translation, therefore you must be fluent in Polish to select this track.

  6. Upon your arrival in Poland,
    submit original documents to the Admissions Office
  7. By the end of the first semester,
    submit the Nostrification of your diploma(s) (if applicable)

Requirements

  • Secondary school/high-school diploma
  • Eligible candidates are admitted on the first come, first served basis
  • English proficiency:
    • For undergraduate studies: CEFR B2, IELTS min. 6 pts. certificates issued by University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate, the British Council and Education Australia. For holders of the Polish secondary school diploma (matura): basic level – minimum 90%, extended level – minimum 60%.
    • For graduate studies: IELTS 7 pts. or C1

Application fee in the amount of PLN 85.00 should be paid via PayU while submitting university application through the Application Portal

The application fee is non-refundable unless: the program of study that you applied to has been cancelled (except when you decide to enroll in a different program of study at SWPS University).
