Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a directive, goal-oriented client-centered counseling style for eliciting behavior change by helping clients to explore and resolve ambivalence. For the past 40 years, the method has been developing rapidly worldwide. In Poland it has been practiced for over 10 years. The effectiveness of MI has been proven by numerous studies. The conference will focus on Polish and international experience related to the application of Motivational Interviewing by profesisonals delivering various mental health-related support services.

About the Conference

Goal of the Conference

The aim of the conference is to summarize Polish and international experience related to application of Motivational Interviewing in various support services, such as health care, addiction treatment, and psychotherapy. Motivational Interviewing is a method involving communication and support applied in life changing situations. The method has been developing rapidly worldwide, for close to 40 years, and in Poland for over 10 years. The effectiveness of Motivational Interviewing has been proven by numerous studies. During the conference, speakers will present practical implementation of the method as well as practices helping professionals to develop MI skills. Speakers will also discuss possibilities of systemic implementation of Motivational Interviewing in various institutions and organizations and ways of supporting Motivational Interviewing practitioners in their continuous development.

Who should attend

The conference is addressed to psychologists, educators, addiction therapists , psychotherapists, social workers, employees of NGOs, and students of social sciences disciplines, such as psychology, law, social work, and students of social sciences programs.

Conference attendees will receive Certificates of Participation.

Learning Outcomes

Participants of the conference will be able to take part in two workshops: one conducted by a Polish expert and one conducted by a specialist from another country.

All presenters are MI trainers, members of Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT)

Dr. Jennifer Frey

Dr. Jennifer Frey has provided training, coaching, and feedback in Motivational Interviewing (MI) since 1996 and has been a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) since 1998. She has more than 20 years’ experience consulting on services for people who are diagnosed with serious behavioral health and medical disorders and has served on the faculty at the Yale School of Medicine. She has a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Penn State University and is licensed to practice psychology in Connecticut and Washington, D.C.

Ali Hall, JD

Ali Hall, JD is a MINT member who has designed and facilitated over two hundred motivational interviewing workshops for behavioral health providers, educators, social and child welfare workers, and health care professionals. She is a training associate for the Center for Strength-Based Strategies as well as the Behavioral Healthcare Institute of the University of North Carolina School of Social Work. She provides MI coding and skill development coaching, and provides consultation to systems for effective MI implementation. In addition, she provided health coaching to a disease management program for chronic conditions and wellness topics. Ali spent her undergraduate years at Occidental College in Los Angeles, and completed her graduate studies at the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University as well as the Cornell University School of Law.

Dr. Clive Tobutt

Registered Nurse (Adult & Mental Health Nursing and Practice Educator) and MI Trainer. He holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Addiction Studies from the Institute of Psychiatry, London University and an MSc in Sociology (Health & Illness) from London South Bank University. He completed his PhD at the University of Winchester. He is also a teaching Fellow (Mental Health Nursing) at Surrey University.

Dr. David Prescott

Clinical Services Development Director the Becket Family of Services, located in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts. He has worked in and around inpatient community settings for 32 years. Mr. Prescott specializes in working with individuals of all ages who have sexually abused and those who have experienced severe trauma. He has produced fourteen book projects as well as numerous articles and chapters in these areas and has given invited lectures and trainings around the world. He is a Past President of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers and is the 2014 recipient of that organization’s Distinguished Contribution Award. He is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers and a Senior Associate and Certified Trainer for the International Center for Clinical Excellence.

Jane Groves

Trainer and consultant in MI, specializing in mental health first aid; public health, and brain-friendly learning.

  • PLN 300 - price for PAMI/PTTM members, students of SWPS University, and employees of institutions and organizations providing support and social services, located in Praga-Płudnie district of Warsaw
  • PLN 150 - special price for persons approved to attend the TNT training led by PAMI/PTTM, in cooperation with MINT
