The Faculty of Psychology at SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Poznań invites applications for the position of Research Assistant in a research project "Relationships among vegetarianism, social identity, and well-being", financed by an OPUS grant from the National Science Center (NCN), led by Pofessor John Nezlek. Place of work: Warsaw and Poznań, Poland. Application deadline: September 20, 2019. 


Project Description

One research assistant is needed to assist with a project about relationships between vegetarianism, social identity, and well-being, funded by the Polish National Science Centre (OPUS grant, 018/31/B/HS6/02822). The principal investigator is John Nezlek (SWPS University, Poznań, and William & Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia, USA), while Marzena Cypryańska (SWPS University, Warsaw), Izabela Krejtz (SWPS University, Warsaw), and Catherine Forestell (William & Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia, USA) are co-Principal Investigators.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Participating in research group meetings
  • Preparing research summaries
  • Assisting in the creation of measures
  • Organizing and conducting focus groups
  • Organizing and conducting experimental studies
  • Supervising teams of undergraduate assistants

PLEASE NOTE: Although the grant is based in SWPS University in Poznań, most of the work (e.g., meetings) will take place in Warsaw.


  • As stipulated by NCN, applications are limited to people who meet one of the following criteria:
    • are full- or part-time graduate students at a university in the Republic of Poland
    • are students in at least the fourth year of a Master's program at a university in the Republic of Poland
    • are doctoral students in an authorized organizational unit of a university, a research institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN), a research institute or an international research institute in the Republic of Poland
    • are participants in a doctoral seminar and are in the process of preparing a doctoral dissertation
  • Familiarity with SPSS and familiarity (or willigness to learn) Qualtrics, an on-line survey package
  • Interest in and familiarity with the topic of 'vegetarianism' would be an asset.

Language requirements:

  • Good command of English to be contributing member of an international research team, working primarily in English
  • Fluent Polish

We offer:

  • Initially a 6-month contract, which can be extended to up to 3-years upon successful completion of the trial period
  • Salary up to PLN 4,500 per month (net)
  • Depending upon the nature of the contribution the research assistant makes to a specific project, he or she may be a co-author on papers. Co-authorship is not guaranteed and will be decided on a case-by-case basis in ways that are consistent with APA guidelines on determining co-authorship.
