Urząd Marszałkowski Województwa Mazowieckiego w Warszawie is a voivodeship self-government organizational unit operating in the form of a budget unit. It was established on 1 January 1999 on the basis of Article 27 of the Act of 13 October 1998 – Provisions introducing acts reforming public administration (Journal of Laws No. 133, item 872, as amended). It ensures the implementation of tasks assigned to the Marshal of the Voivodeship, the Voivodeship Board and the Regional Assembly by providing the highest quality public services, purposeful and effective management of the entrusted funds, so as to maximize the value for citizens in the Voivodeship.

The tasks of the regional self-government falling within the competence of the Marshal or the Management Board and carried out with the assistance of the Marshal's Office include, in particular, matters in the field of: public education, including higher education, health promotion and protection, culture and monuments and monument care, social assistance, supporting the family and the foster care system, pro-family policy, modernization of rural areas, Zoning public transport and public roads, physical culture and tourism, protection of consumer rights, Defence public safety, counteracting unemployment and activating the local labour market, telecommunications activities, protection of employee claims in the event of the employer's insolvency
