Social Clusters as Platforms for Cross-Sector Collaboration and Systemic Change
Industrial clusters are a well-established form of collaboration between firms and other organizations, widely recognized for their role in fostering innovation, competitiveness, and regional development. In contrast, social clusters have received considerably less attention, despite their potential to support cross-sector collaboration and the development of social innovation. One example of this emerging approach is Collaborative Social Economy Ecosystems (CSEIs).
Workshop Scope
The workshop aims to introduce participants to the concept of social clusters, with particular emphasis on CSEIs, and to explore their similarities and differences in comparison with the more established concept of industrial clusters. Although both forms may share certain organizational characteristics and mechanisms of collaboration, their objectives, operational logic, and conditions for long-term success may differ.
A key component of the workshop will be the collaborative identification and assessment of the attributes that are essential for the effective functioning, sustainability, and long-term development of clusters. Participants will evaluate the importance of selected attributes for both industrial and social clusters, considering which characteristics are common to both models and which may be particularly relevant to social clusters.
Workshop Format
The workshop will follow an interactive, participatory format, combining short conceptual introductions, group work, and a concluding discussion. By bringing together participants’ knowledge and perspectives, it will contribute to a better understanding of social clusters and help identify the key attributes that can support their long-term sustainability and development.
Target Audience
Researchers, social economy organizations, social innovation practitioners, representatives of public institutions, facilitators of cross-sector collaboration, and anyone interested in social clusters and collaborative approaches to social innovation.
