Every Urban Life: Walking Workshop
C303, 22 October, 08:00-11:00Workshop and Study Visit
What can walking reveal about the space that we normally overlook?
Everyday Urban Life – Walking Workshop is an experimental, participatory workshop exploring walking as an artistic, sensory, and critical practice. Rather than treating the city as a fixed backdrop, we will approach it as a living environment shaped by bodies, objects, memories, architectures, stories, and more-than-human forces. The workshop invites participants to slow down, observe, listen, collect, map, and creatively respond to their surroundings.
Program
- We will explore urban spaces through sensory walks, found objects, photographs, speculative exercises, and temporary performative actions. Inspired by psychogeography, Fluxus practices, and Erwin Wurm’s One Minute Sculptures, these activities encourage participants to question habitual ways of moving through and understanding the space.
- Together, we will create “footnotes” to the city: small gestures, observations, stories, encounters, and interventions that make visible overlooked aspects of everyday life. The workshop aims to develop new ways of sensing and interpreting urban environments while fostering collective imagination, and a sense of urban belonging.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will leave with new practical tools for embodied urban research and artistic exploration, as well as fresh perspectives on how everyday practices can contribute to more inclusive and socially connected forms of urban life.
Who should attend?
The workshop is open to researchers, students, artists, designers, educators, and anyone interested in everyday urban experience, artistic research, participatory practices, and social change. No previous artistic experience is required: curiosity, openness, and a willingness to explore are enough.
