University of Paris 8

Claire Bourhis-Mariotti is a Full Professor of African American History and Co-Director of the TransCrit research unit at Université Paris 8 (France), where she also serves as Director of the Master’s Program in Foreign Languages and Humanities. Active in broader academic leadership, she serves as President of RéDEHJA, a French learned society, and Vice-President of the Institut des Amériques.

Alongside her research on nineteenth-century African American history and Black transnationalism—including her latest book — We Are American Citizens: The Colored Conventions Movement and the Long Struggle for Civil Rights (UGA Press, 2026) — her work strongly emphasizes international pedagogical innovation. Grounded in this commitment, she and Marie Chagnoux co-led an ERUA-funded traveling seminar in Las Palmas in March 2026, which produced the student podcast series "Mutations of the Modern World: Digital Nomadism Between Leisure and Work". At this conference, drawing on this collaborative experience, they co-present “Concepts in Practice: ERUA as a ‘Learning Territory’”, examining the transformative impact of European alliance initiatives on learning environments.
