What will you learn?

SWPS University is among top universities offering English Studies programs in Poland.

The graduate level English Studies focus on advanced development of English language competency. Students broaden their knowledge in areas such as: linguistics, methodology of teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL), international business communication as well as the cultural and historical background of the English speaking countries. Graduates are well prepared for the contemporary employment market thanks to their language proficiency, technical skills and multicultural awareness.

Who the program is addressed to?

The graduate level English Studies Program is a good choice for B.A. degree holders in any discipline and for professionals who wish to further develop their English language competencies. Prospective students should be able to speak English at the CEFR C1 or higher level and must provide appropriate English proficiency certificates.

Requirements: English proficiency - CEFR C1 or higher, supported by appropriate English proficiency certificates.
For holders of a Polish secondary school diploma (matura): basic level – minimum 90%, extended level – minimum 60%.

Students at the Institute of English Studies develop their language skills using state-of-the art tools and technologies, including a Simultaneous Interpretation Laboratory, Computer Assisted Translation programs (CAT tools), and digital interactive whiteboards.

English Studies at SWPS University offer a friendly and multicultural environment, contributing to the students’ development of language and interpersonal skills as well as cross-cultural competencies. International students comprise close to twenty five per cent of the student population. Therefore, students have ample opportunities to practice English not only in class, but also in daily and informal interactions with each other.

Focus on your interests

PLEASE NOTE: Each year the particular specialisations are made available based on the number of declarations of choice submitted by students in the first semester. Therefore, we do not guarantee all specialisations will be initiated in the year of your admission.

  1. Teaching English with ICT - Teaching Track

    The program teaches not only the fundamental competencies indispensable in modern teaching, but it also offers additional courses on the use of the latest information technology tools and teaching materials and their application in the classroom. Additionally, the program prepares future teachers to align programs of teaching with various age groups of learners and offers an opportunity to gain certification in teaching English as a foreign language in Polish public institutions (only for B.A. graduates of English Philology or other English language related degree programs). During teaching internships, under the guidance of a coordinator, students create their own European Portfolio for Student Teachers of Languages.

  2. Translation Studies – Translation Track (Polish/English Translation)

    Translation Specialization focuses on translation theory and practice. All courses are taught by experienced translators and translation scholars. The program offers workshops in business, media, literary and specialized translation, from Polish to English and vice versa. Students practice text analysis and writing in different styles. Additionally, they learn how to use Computer Assisted Translation programs (CAT tools). The Translation Specialization aims to:
    – Instill professional approach to translated texts, such as the use of translation strategies and techniques, appropriate to the given context.
    – Teach students about the requirements of general and specialized translation and localization.
    – Demonstrate good working practices for professional translators, including: time management, research techniques, evaluation of information sources, compilation of translator’s library and tool set, and business basics for freelance translators.
    PLEASE NOTE: We focus on English to Polish and Polish to English translation, therefore you must be fluent in Polish to select this track.

  3. Communication in Business – Business Track

    Communication in Business Program includes subjects such as: general management theory, marketing, communication, interpersonal relations, and influencing skills. Additionally, during workshops, students gain practical competencies in the following areas: presentation skills, public speaking, team work, and business writing. Some of the classes are conducted by business experts and managers actively working in various firms and corporations. During the course of studies, students have an opportunity to visit several companies and organizations, meet business professionals and previous graduates of the Communication in Business specialization.
    Thanks to their English proficiency, communications skills, business acumen and multicultural awareness, graduates of the Communication in Business Specialization build successful careers in areas, such as: public relations, marketing, corporate management, and business administration in Poland and abroad.

Graduates of English Studies build successful careers in various industries, including education, translation, international business, media, marketing and advertising, film and TV production, government administration, and NGOs.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate diploma (Bachelor's degree)
  • Eligible candidates are admitted on the first come, first served basis
  • English proficiency:
    • For undergraduate studies: CEFR B2, IELTS min. 6 pts. certificates issued by University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate, the British Council and Education Australia
    • For graduate studies: IELTS 7 pts. or C1

Application fee in the amount of PLN 85.00 should be paid via PayU while submitting university application through the Application Portal

The application fee is non-refundable unless: the program of study that you applied to has been cancelled (except when you decide to enroll in a different program of study at SWPS University).
