Joanna Gutral-Sutherland, Ph.D., is a psychologist and psychotherapist. She researches the correlations between social expectations, basic psychological needs, and personality changes over lifetime. She is also interested in the perception of changes and their impact on wellbeing in different age groups, the social comparison theory, psychoeducation, and personal development.
In her psychotherapeutic practice she works towards destigmatization of persons suffering from mental disorders, prophylaxis and treatment of mood disorders and anxiety, and wellbeing. Currently, she in the process of obtaining a formal professional certification in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) at SWPS University’s School of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy.
In 2017, she received the Professor Zbigniew Pietrasiński scholarship awarded to best doctoral students, funded by the Pro Akademika Foundation.
She runs the Zdrowa Głowa portal, and has initiated a social campaign “Mam Terapeutę” (I have a therapist) – initiatives promoting good mental health.
At SWPS University, she teaches classes in statistics and methodology of psychological research.
