Ewa Dawidziuk, Ph.D. is a lawyer. Her research interests focus on criminal punishment law and operations of various types of detention centers, such as juvenile detention centers, local centers for the prevention of antisocial behavior (KOZZD), forensic psychiatry wards, and prisons.
In 2007, she joined the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Poland, where in 2015, she was appointed the Director of the Department for the Execution of Judgements. From 2016 to 2020, she was the coordinator and a member of the Expert Team for Alimony.
She authored numerous publications on criminal punishment law, including Izolacja sprawców przestępstw uznanych za niebezpiecznych dla społeczeństwa [Isolation of criminals considered to be dangerous for the society] with J. Nowakowska (ed.), Warsaw 2020; Osoby pozbawione wolności z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną lub psychiczną [Incarceratoin of individuals with intellectual disability and mental disorders] with M. Mazur (ed.), Warsaw 2017. In 2013, she published her doctoral thesis Traktowanie osób pozbawionych wolności we współczesnej Polsce na tle standardów międzynarodowych [Treatment of Prisoners in Contemporary Poland in the Context of International Standards]. Currently, she researches the treatment of inmates, who are in palliative care.
At SWPS University she teaches classes in the rights of inmates, case-law of the European Court for Human Rights (ECHR) pertaining to inmates, implementation of ECHR’s verdicts (institutional cases), and current changes in law. She is also the Supervisor of the Penitentiary Student Research Club.
