Dr. Mateusz Felczak is a game and cultural researcher. He is interested in the transformation of monetization models and game distribution and the function they play in the fandom community. He also researches streaming media and e-sport, in particular in Europe and Asia.
He collaborates with the Jagiellonian University’s Ośrodek Badań Groznawczych (Center for Game Research). In the past he also cooperated with the University’s Institute of Audiovisual Arts and the Institute of the Middle and Far East.
From 2019 to 2022, he was the Chairman of the program committee of the CEEGS Conference and he co-organized the 2022 DiGRA Conference.
He published numerous articles in Teksty Drugie, Game Studies, the Journal of Gaming & Virtual Worlds, Przegląd Kulturoznawczy, and Ekrany, where he also held the position of Editor of the Video Games section.
Recently, he has been collaborating with the City University of Hong Kong (School of Creative Media) on a research project “Large-scale Live E-sports Events in Poland and Hong Kong”, funded by Poland’s National Science Centre (NCN).
