USWPS Student Recognized in Seeds For The Future Program

USWPS Student Recognized in Seeds For The Future Program

We are pleased to announce the impressive achievement of Maksymilian Kędzierski, a second-year student majoring in Management and Leadership at SWPS University. His team won first place among 17 others in the Polish edition of the international Seeds for the Future talent development program run by Huawei. As a result, the students have earned the opportunity to represent the region in the global Tech4Good competition, a component of the Seeds for the Future program.

Insights into Seeds For The Future program

Seeds For The Future is Huawei's flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR) program. Its participants, young, talented people worldwide, participate in workshops, competitions, and alumni activities centered around digital technology and entrepreneurship.

Program participants have an opportunity to hone essential project competencies, such as creativity and innovativeness, problem-solving skills, and effective teamwork. They also gain unique knowledge about fifth-generation mobile technology (5G) and artificial intelligence (AI) models.

Learn more about the program

To qualify for the Seeds For The Future program, the candidates underwent a demanding recruitment process involving 250 students across Poland. Those who reached the finals were organized into project teams to address a specific challenge related to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations.

Students’ innovative approach to Alzheimer’s disease

The team led by Maksymilian Kędzierski, Faculty of Social Sciences in Warsaw student, chose the "Good Health and Quality of Life" category and focused on addressing Alzheimer's disease and dementia. They developed an innovative solution utilizing an AI algorithm to improve communication between caregivers and individuals affected by Alzheimer's.

Their project impressed the international jury and secured the top position. As a result, the winning Polish team will participate in the global finals of Tech4Good, where they will compete against the best teams from other regions. The stakes are high, with the grand prize of $100,000 in project funding, cash prizes, and an educational trip to China.

Maksymilian Kędzierski leads a team of talented students, including:

  • Lena Starowicz (AGH University of Krakow, Poland)
  • Dorota Orzechowska (University of Warwick, UK)
  • Jakub Babuśka (London King's College, UK)
  • Jakub Kobiałka (College of Economics and Computer Science)
  • Syntia Kudela (University of Szczecin)

SWPS University is committed to developing young talents

Dr. Włodzimierz Świątek, the supervisor of Business, Innovation and Management Student Research Club, Leadership LAB Project tutor, and a startup mentor, was one the first to recognize Maksymilian Kędzierski's talent.

Maksymilian is an incredibly talented young innovator who bravely faces challenges and collaboratively creates innovative and much-needed startup projects with his colleagues. He won multiple startup competitions and has earned a scholarship from the Rafał Brzoska Foundation. At the 2023 Acts of Leadership Awards Ceremony hosted by SWPS University, he was honored with the prestigious Leader Among Leaders award and a team award for the ALERTLINK project. I have closely followed Maksymilian's personal and professional growth, providing support during mentoring sessions. Our student community appreciates him as a good and kind colleague and, most importantly, as someone who generously shares his unique knowledge and experiences. I also value his dedication to self-improvement, advancing project competencies, and inspiring others to take on challenges.

When asked about his experience in the program, Maksymilian Kędzierski responded:

I believe the ability to handle the crisis that arose in our group on the fifth day was crucial. The situation was so serious that we considered changing the whole concept we had developed. However, we managed to resolve it quickly. Beyond the insightful workshops on AI, Cloud Computing, 5G, and Digital Power technologies, the hands-on experience of creating and managing the project proved most valuable. Communication within the team, which is critical in such projects, was also important. We didn't know each other, and despite the differences in our skills, competencies, and visions, we had to develop a project in a tight time frame. We won thanks to effective communication and the involvement of all team members.

Student startups shape the future

In Poland, startups contribute to 65% of all innovations. Notably, approximately 25% of these startups are founded by students. In 2023, several student startups emerged at SWPS University, and their accomplishments were recognized at the recent 4th Acts of Leadership Award Ceremony.

The Acts of Leadership jury awarded the following projects:

  • ALERTLINK: An innovative initiative aimed at safeguarding the health and lives of individuals affected by the war in Ukraine, as well as those facing emergency situations such as earthquakes, floods, pandemics, and climate disasters.
  • START ART: An application tailored for artists-entrepreneurs.
  • OfflineOn: A company addressing widespread issues in the business environment, including technology overuse, the lack of genuine human relationships in companies, and the problem of burnout.
  • Little Babylon: An impactful initiative supporting the establishment of organic vertical farming.
  • TakmiNIEmów: A project that stands against verbal violence, highlighting its potential impact, which can be as emotionally painful as physical actions.
