Ildiko Otova holds a Ph.D. in Political Science. She teaches at the New Bulgarian University, where she also conducts research on migration.
Currently, she serves as the European Academic Coordinator for the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree in Forced Migration in a Global Context offered by some members of the European Reform University Alliance.
Research
She is an active contributor to Bulgarian and European research projects. Her primary research focuses on political narratives surrounding migration and their impact on migration policies.
Publications
Her publications include numerous articles and a book Migration and Populism in Bulgaria (Routledge, 2022).
Professional Advocacy and Humanitarian Experience
She has extensive experience in the non-governmental sector. Her background as a communications and advocacy specialist includes managing and coordinating projects for:
- International Rescue Committee (IRC)
- United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
- Other leading humanitarian groups
