research center: SWPS University
location: cross-university project
duration: 2022 2023

SWPS University is implementing the "Institutional Excellence in Teaching" project, co-financed by the European Union through the European Social Fund (Knowledge Education Development Operational Programme 2014–2020).

Our university was awarded funding for this initiative under the Ministry of Education and Science’s non-competitive project, "Institutional Excellence in Teaching" (POWR.03.04.00-00-P023/21). The total grant amount is PLN 280,043.61. The project will be carried out from November 1, 2022, to September 30, 2023.

Project objectives

The primary objective of this project is to implement and execute a new quality policy concerning learning outcomes — specifically regarding their definition, comprehension, and verification across various areas of educational management. This goal will be achieved by aligning curriculum content, teaching formats, and instructional methods, as well as student assessment techniques, with the intended learning outcomes.

Project activities will focus on shifting the pedagogical perspective of academic staff from teaching to facilitating student learning, while simultaneously developing competencies in the organization of this process.

Project tasks and expected outcomes

E-learning Training
  • Curriculum Development and Modification: Creation of a comprehensive knowledge compendium focused on the design and continuous improvement of degree programs.
  • Learning Outcomes and Verification Methods: Enhancing the understanding of core educational goals for students and increasing the awareness of academic staff regarding the design of courses — including lectures, seminars, and tutorials—through the lens of student learning outcomes.
  • On-site Training
    • Leadership Development: Two off-site training sessions for Vice-Deans and Dean Representatives focused on learning outcomes, related procedures, and the integration of internal quality assurance systems.
    • Faculty Workshops: 40 department-level training sessions dedicated to learning outcomes and their respective verification methods.
    Digital Resources
    • Methodological Handbook: Preparation of a digital manual focused on methods for verifying learning outcomes.

The project anticipates an increase in the knowledge and pedagogical competencies of academic staff regarding the definition and formulation of learning outcomes. Key areas of focus include distinguishing between program-level and course-specific outcomes, ensuring learning outcomes guide the delivery of curricula, and aligning verification methods with established educational goals.
