Ewa Gruszczyńska is a Professor of Psychology at SWPS University in Warsaw. Since joining the Faculty of Psychology in 2003, she has held several key leadership roles, including Head of the Department of Health Psychology and Director of the Institute of Clinical Psychology. In 2018, she was appointed Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs.
Research and Scholarly Interests: As a member of the Health & Coping Research Group, Professor Gruszczyńska focuses her research on the psychological mechanisms of stress, ranging from routine daily challenges to transformative critical life events. Her recent work examines the efficacy of stress-coping strategies among populations facing significant health and professional hurdles, specifically individuals experiencing burnout and those living with HIV/AIDS. She is currently the Principal Investigator for the project “Providing Social Support and Health: Conditions and Temporal Dynamics.”
Publications and Professional Affiliations: Professor Gruszczyńska authored over 70 publications. She is a member of several international professional organizations including:
- Editorial Board Member of the following journals: Applied Psychology: Health and Well-Being; Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine; and Anxiety, Stress and Coping
- European Health Psychology Society (EHPS): Former Board Member (2013–2016) and current National Delegate for Poland
- Polish Psychological Association: Board Member of the Health Psychology Section
- Central and Eastern European Society of Behavioral Medicine: Founding Member and former Secretary.
Awards and International Collaboration: In 2012, Professor Gruszczyńska was awarded a DAAD scholarship, serving as a visiting researcher at the Freie Universität Berlin under the invitation of Professor Ralf Schwarzer. Subsequently, she served as the Principal Investigator for the 2013–2017 study “Values and Cultural Norms for Positive Aging: A Polish-German Comparison,” a project funded by the Polish-German Foundation for Science (PNFN).
Teaching: At SWPS University she lectures on health psychology, with a specialized focus on the theoretical frameworks and practical applications of stress and coping strategies.
