Transdiagnostic Processes and Emotion Regulation
Transdiagnostic processes are involved in risk maintenance and the recurrence of more than one psychological disorder. In our research, we are trying to understand how these processes (for example task-unrelated thoughts, mind wandering or rumination) are linked to our emotion regulation. For example, in a project funded by the National Science Center Poland, we are testing how and when naturally occurring mind-wandering can become a maladaptive process which impairs our everyday life. We assess such processes both in the laboratory setting (for example using eye-tracking and VR) and in participants' everyday life (e.g. using daily sampling methods coupled with psychophysiological measures). Additionally, we are aiming to transfer the basic knowledge about transdiagnostic processes into clinical practice by developing digital solutions for psychology and research. Currently, we are working on an mHealth application for people struggling with repetitive negative thinking and on a solution for CBT practitioners enabling the use of dynamic networks in psychotherapy (project funded by the National Center for Research and Development, Poland).
HASE Research Initiative
The Human Aspects in Science and Engineering (HASE) project, conducted in collaboration with other leading research centers, including the XR Lab at the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology (PJATK), the VR Lab at the Institute of Psychology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN), and the Laboratory of Interactive Technologies OPI-PIB, comprises different aspect of a wide range of mixed reality tools, including virtual and extended reality.
The goal of these projects is to determine whether the use of virtual and extended reality may support cognitive training (mindfulness training) in specific user groups, for example in the elderly. Another interesting research challenge in this area is an attempt to align the work environment in ecological conditions with the cognitive load of people working in different types of office spaces, by using virtual reality tools..
