The goal of the project is to intensify international collaboration, enhance the potential of young researchers, and strengthen institutional and program cooperation with the members of the European Reform University Alliance (ERUA), in particular with the European University Viadrina (EUV) as a partner specializing in the discipline of law. Such cooperation allows both partners to share knowledge and best practices, attract Ph.D. students and young researchers, investing in their development, and strengthen the partnership.
The project is co-funded by the European Social Fund Plus 2021-2027 and the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange’s (NAWA) as part of the program “Supporting European Universities” (FERS.01.05-IP.08-008/23). Project duration: October 1, 2024 — Septmber 30, 2026.
Project objectives
The three main goals of the project include:
- Enhance the skills of young researchers (including "transversal skills").
- Develop a comprehensive structure founded on international cooperation, which will be conducive to a long-term development of young researchers
- Increase institutional capacity for international and interdisciplinary cooperation, particularly within the European Universities alliance.
Project deliverables:
Over the course of the project, we will organize:
- A mentoring program for young researchers, holders of doctoral degrees, which will also offer mobility opportunities to partner universities in other countries
- A summer school, for doctoral students, combined with mobility opportunities to partner universities in other countries
- An intensive preparatory program for candidates wishing to apply to a doctoral school. The program will include workshops and individual or group online mentoring sessions
- A hackathon and a conference, which will close the project, for doctoral students and young researchers
- Workshops for managers of doctoral school, concerning a development of common doctoral or pre-doctoral programs
- 15 mobilities for administrative staff working in research-related departments of USWPS to universities who are members of ERUA, or other higher education institutions in the EU, to acquire relevant skills, such as the development of doctoral schools and international grant application skills.
Expected outcomes
Thanks to the project:
- At least 7 young researchers, holders of doctoral degrees, will gain research and development skills
- 25 doctoral students will participate in the summer school
- 15 candidates applying to doctoral schools will get trained on how to apply to these schools and carry out doctoral research projects
- At least 20 doctoral student and young researchers will participate in the hackathon and the closing conference
- We will develop a teaching program for USWPS doctoral school
- We will develop a course for doctoral students that will be offered in doctoral schools of both USWPS and EUV
- 15 administrative employees from research-supporting departments of USWPS, will gain relevant skills, such as the development of doctoral schools and international grant application skills.
Beneficiaries of the project
Thanks to the project, we will support 85 young researchers, including:
- doctoral students (R1)
- young researchers who obtained their doctoral degree less than 7 years ago
- graduate students nearing their graduation (or alumni of graduate studies)
- staff of SWPS University’s Doctoral School and the Office for Research.
