Dr. Piotr Cywiński is a historian specializing in Medieval history. In 2006, he was appointed the Director of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Oświęcim. He was the President of the Club of Catholic Intelligentsia in Warsaw. He is a participant in the Polish-Jewish, Catholic-Jewish, and the Ukrainian-Polish dialogues, and other cross-cultural dialogues. He is a member of the Polish Council of Christians and Jews, and a member of the International Auschwitz Council, where he held the position of the secretary from 2000 to 2006. Dr. Cywiński was a member of the Council for the Protection of Struggle and Martyrdom Sites (2010-2016) and a member of the Council for Museums by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage (2009-2018). He was appointed, by Władysław Bartoszewski, to the position of President of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation, which he has also co-founded.
