Scientists, researchers and educators from different parts of the world will come together to share their knowledge development issues at the international, national and local levels.

Focus of the Symposium
The discussion will focus on the role of development and ways of supporting community development across different regions of the world. The countries that will serve as case-study examples, include the United States, Poland and Israel.
It is a misconception that development does not matter for the developed societies. The recent presidential campaign in the United States has demonstrated the pivotal, from the social point of view, importance of infrastructure shortcomings (e.g. roads, airports, train stations) and the lack of social welfare support system such as healthcare. Other challenges influencing development around the world include the influx of immigrants and migrant remittances into different global localities. For example, Israel is not a uniform country in that respect. It is enjoying a fast development, yet it is facing multiple simultaneously emergent developmental needs, particularly on the local level. Poland, after the fall of communism, is a country experiencing the so called segmented development, which means that in some areas it is developing very well (for example the infrastructure which is supported by funding from the EU), while in others the growth is difficult. Additionally, issues such as social capital, equality and diversity present their own, highly complex, development dynamics.
The opening lecture of the symposium on Community Development Model: Application for Developing Community Programs, by Professor Barbara Klimek from Arizona State University's School of Social Work, will take place on January 11th at SWPS University.
Objectives of the symposium

To map the relevant and development-related topics at the international, national and local level by looking at the three examples of the American, Israeli and Polish societies, with reference to the so called social work and social policy matters, as well as migration and youth.

To discuss the potential option of transnational educational programs centered on ‘Development & Society’, provided in English, at SWPS University.

To specify the target audience and participants of the educational programs that would revolve around global issues and would be offered in Poland. Further, to discuss employment prospects for graduates of these programs.

To address funding options for research on development issues.
