Professor of Law at Cornell University Law School, where he teaches courses on civil procedure, torts, environmental law, administrative law, business organizations, and social & cognitive psychology for lawyers. He has a J.D. and Ph.D. (Psychology) from Stanford University. He has authored dozens of articles on the application of psychology and behavioral economic principles to law and legal institutions.
Professor Rachlinski has offered new perspectives on the influence of human psychology on decision-making by courts, administrative agencies, and regulated communities. He is a founding co-editor of the Journal of Empirical Legal Studies and serves on the Board of Directors of the Society for Empirical Legal Studies.
