Inauguration of Academic Year 2016/2017

Ceremony

During the ceremony, SWPS University will host many distinguished guests from academia, the government, and the local municipality. Most importantly, we will be welcoming all new and returning students, who will be starting a new year of learning at our University.

Inaugural Address

The inaugural address on The Role of Humanities and Social Sciences in University Education will be delivered by Professor Andrzej Eliasz.

Speaker

Professor Andrzej Eliasz - specializes in psychology of individual differences, the evolution of temperament in human development, and ecological psychology. Member of numerous national and international research associations. From 1991 to 2000, Editor in Chief of Psychological Studies journal. In 2011, awarded Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta. First Rector of SWPS University, from 1996 to 2016.

Ceremony

The official inauguration of the 2016/2017 academic year at SWPS University in Wrocław will take place on October 11, 2016. Professor Tomasz Zaleśkiewicz, Dean of SWPS University’s Faculty in Wrocław, will preside over the ceremony and will welcome honorable guests and students.

The inaugural address on Questions About the Purpose of Legal Liability will be delivered by Professor Lech Gardocki.

Speaker

Professor Lech Gardocki - lawyer, judge, Dean of Warsaw Faculty of Law at SWPS University. Expert in criminal law, judge of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Poland from 1996 to 2011, the First President of the Supreme Court and the President of the Tribunal of State of the Republic of Poland from 1998 to 2010. Awarded Commander’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta and National Order of the Legion of Honor. Recipient of Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Research, in 2014.

Ceremony

The official inauguration of the 2016/2017 academic year at SWPS University in Poznań will take place on October 6, 2016. Professor Anna M. Zalewska, Dean of Poznań Faculty of Social Sciences and Design, will preside over the ceremony and will welcome honorable guests and students.

The inaugural address on The Power of the Situation. Psychology of Unreflective Obedience will be delivered by Professor Dariusz Doliński.

Speaker

Professor Dariusz Doliński - specializes in social psychology (mechanisms of submitting to external pressures and social manipulation), psychology of emotions and motivation as well as marketing psychology. Author of over 200 publications, including Przypisywanie moralnej odpowiedzialności [Assignment of Moral Accountability], Orientacja defensywna [Defensive Orientation], Strategie samoutrudniania [Strategies of Self-impediment], and Psychologia wpływu społecznego [Psychology of Social Influence]. Former Dean of SWPS University’s Faculty in Wrocław. Currently, Rector’s Representative for University Development.

Ceremony

The official inauguration of the 2016/2017 academic year at SWPS University in Katowice will take place on October 14, 2016. Associate Professor Katarzyna Popiołek, Ph.D., Dean of Katowice Faculty of Psychology, will preside over the ceremony and will welcome honorable guests and students. Additionally, everyone will have an opportunity to enjoy a performance by the Chamber Choir of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice.

The inaugural address on Inevitable Distortions of Moral Judgements will be delivered by Professor Bogdan Wojciszke.

Speaker

Professor Bogdan Wojciszke - psychologist, Deputy Dean for Research at the Sopot Faculty of Psychology. His research interests include the psychology of moral assessments and judgements, dynamic of close relationships, psychology of power, attitudes of Poles towards privatisation, and productivity and dignity as ethical values of the contemporary Polish society. Former Visiting Professor at University of Michigan, USA; Visiting Professor at University of Halle, Gernany. Recipient of numerous awards, including the Polish Academy of Sciences Award for the publication entitled Social and Moral Values and the Ministry of National Education Award for Excellence in Research.

The official inauguration of the 2016/2017 academic year at SWPS University in Sopot will take place on October 8, 2016. Associate Professor Aleksandra Janowska-Fila, Dean of Sopot Faculty of Psychology, will preside over the ceremony and will welcome honorable guests and students.

The inaugural address on Self-assessment: Tools, Methodology and Understanding Results will be delivered by Mariola Łaguna, Ph.D., Associate Professor at the The John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (KUL).

Speaker

Mariola Łaguna, Ph.D., Associate Professor at the The John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (KUL) - psychologist, Head of General Psychology Department at KUL, Head of Social Personality Psychology Lab. Author of numerous publications, Editor in Chief of Annals of Psychology, and reviewer of academic articles for various Polish and international journals.

Her research interests focus on relations between personality, motivation and social psychology. She studies how personality traits (e.g. self-esteem and belief in own ability), and concepts, such as hope and optimism, help people to persevere in attainment of goals in the face of various challenges.
