History and physics enthusiasts will have a rare opportunity to meet Mr. David N. Schwartz, author of The Last Man Who Knew Everything: The Life and Times of Enrico Fermi, Father of the Nuclear Age, a new biography of the genius physicist. The meeting has been organized by Psyche Bookstore, SWPS University, The Spokesmen of Science - an association of scientists, and Copernicus Center Press, the publishers of the Polish edition of the book.
David N. Schwartz worked in the national security/defense policy sector, with assignments at the US Department of State. He has written several books on national security matters. His father, Melvin Schwartz, shared the 1988 Nobel Prize in Physics with Leon M. Lederman and Jack Steinberger for their development of the neutrino beam method and their demonstration of the doublet structure of the leptons through the discovery of the muon neutrino.
Meeting will be conducted in English with translation into Polish. Free admission.

David N. Schwartz – holds a B.A. from Stanford University and a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has worked at the US Department of State, the Brookings Institution, and Goldman Sachs in both London and New York. He has published widely on US strategic nuclear weapons policy, NATO, and foreign policy. He is the author of the forthcoming biography of Enrico Fermi, "The Last Man Who Knew Everything: The Life and Times of Enrico Fermi, Father of the Nuclear Age," to be published by Basic Books on December 5 2017. He lives in New York with his wife Susan. His father, Melvin Schwartz, shared the 1988 Nobel Prize in Physics for the discovery of the muon neutrino.
In 1942, a team of scientists from the University of Chicago, led by Enrico Fermi, achieved the first ever human-made self-sustaining nuclear chain reaction. Fermi, an exceptional scientists, well versed in classical physics and quantum mechanics, highly knowledgeable in theory, but also capable of experimentation, was in fact the last man who knew everything - at least about physics.
