Students of SOF design mini visual dictionary for Ukrainian refugees

Students of SOF design mini visual dictionary for Ukrainian refugees

Nearly 2 million refugees from Ukraine have crossed the Polish border since the Russian invasion so far, and the people of Poland are volunteering to help on a massive scale. Poles are eager to help, but the language barrier can be an obstacle. First-year students of SWPS University’s School of Form (SOF) recognized the problem and designed a set of graphics illustrating some basic words useful in communication with refugees.

“Translator”, “currency exchange”, “phone charger”, “office” - these are just a few examples of terms that might come in handy when offering support. The mini-dictionary created by the students of School of Form includes images of objects or persons paired with words in Ukrainian, Polish, Russian and English. Thanks to this visual aid, speakers of different languages can communicate by pointing to a given image or quickly learn basic words in another language.
