The Asian Studies Student Research Club provides a platform for expanding knowledge and interests in the field of Asian Studies. Why should we be learning about Asia? Because Asia is the largest continent, home to unimaginable diversity and wealth, which ensures endless exploration of topics and information. Asia is not only the cradle of civilization, but also the fastest growing region in the world. Most of all, Asia is the future.
Our main fields of interest include:
- Pop culture – we watch and analyze films, present topics recurring in contemporary music and art of East Asia and South-East Asia
- Business an economy – we are interested in the relations between East Asia and the so-called West. We research cultural differences and their impact on trade relations
- Tourism and related issues, for example the phenomenon of Macau casino tourism and slum tourism (so-called poorism) in the Philippines
- Political transformation in Asia Pacific and political cooperation between South-East Asia, East Asia, and the West.
- Traditional cultural aspects of religious rituals and regional cuisine.
We organize lectures, workshops, and festivals to educate other students and the wider audience about the culture of East Asia.
