About the Conference

Goal of the Conference

The 2nd ‘Innovation Transformer’ conference, which will focus on the history of innovation, its current status and directions for tomorrow will touch on many topics including digital transformation, Artificial Intelligence, deep learning, robotics, virtual reality as well as the climate change and social entrepreneurship. Speakers will include academics, researchers and business representatives from global companies, such as Facebook, Google, Linux and Orange.

Who should attend

The conference is addressed to innovators, entrepreneurs, social activists, academics, students, and members of the local community.

Full program of the conference will be available soon.

We believe that a modern university is like a transformer, or a place where different “currents” of thought converge, where various scientific data is processed, and that these processes generate innovation and change. Therefore, encouraged by the success of the first edition of the Conference last year, we have decide to continue the innititiave.

Dr. Konrad Maj, Member of the Organizing Committee

Speakers

Lecture 1: When sovereignty and autonomy are at stake – reflections on ethics in the digital age

States feel that their sovereignty is threatened by a combination of rising international tensions and disruptive transformation throughout economy and society driven by digital technologies. These technologies bring much good, for society at large and for individual development and personal autonomy. They also bring much bad through cyberattacks, cybercrime and state- or commercial mass-surveillance. At the sharp edge of these developments are emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, 5G and Internet of Things. How can we understand – and perhaps resolve - the good and the bad, the ethical dilemmas that play out at this nexus of technology, state and individual?

He is also visiting professor at Rijeka University, Senior Advisor to the European Policy Center, Chief Adviser to the European Institute of Technology/Health, and Supervisory Board member of the eGovernance Academy in Estonia. He holds a PhD in physics from Nijmegen University in the Netherlands, an MBA from Warwick University in the UK, was awarded an EU fellowship at UNC Chapel Hill and completed executive cybersecurity education at Harvard.

Lecture 2: AI horizons from the geopolitical perspective

The presentation will address major emerging and upcoming trends in artificial intelligence and machine learning from the geopolitical perspective and in the context of the so called “AI race”. The future implementation of AI is challenged by technological and social limitations. Data may not be the ultimate source of competitive advantage in the future and a lot may depend on thinking one step ahead of current paradigms. The presentation will discuss whether the AI race is a proper way of thinking about AI rollout and whether we can overcome this logic in the coming years.

258 Iwona Gawrycka

Aleksandra Przegalińska

Holds a doctoral degree in philosophy of Artificial Intelligence. She is Assistant Professor at Kozminski University and currently Research Fellow at the Center for Collective Intelligence at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston. In 2011, Aleksandra held a position of Chair of Media Regulation Working Party at the Council of European Union in Brussels. As a William J. Fulbright Scholar, Aleksandra also majored in Sociology at The New School for Social Research in New York (2012), where she participated in research on identity in virtual reality, with particular emphasis on „Second Life”. Currently, Aleksandra’s primary research interests include consequences of introducing artificial intelligence systems to people’s social and professional sphere as well as wearable technologies and human/bot interactions.

Lecture 3: Active Intelligence

This introductory presentation will outline the major trends currently shaping technology visions around Artificial Intelligence drawing on examples from both startups and larger corporations to demonstrate how different types of firms are incorporating it. The growing reliance on artificial intelligence is becoming ubiquitous and is rapidly becoming capable of adaptive learning and forming more integrated knowledge, investments are surging and more uses are being considered. What lies ahead? A number of Artificial Intelligence tools already support our decisions but Active Intelligence systems will take care of us.
