Our Alumnus and Law Students Awarded at INADR Tournament

We are happy to announce that law students from SWPS University, Dominika Dziel and Kinga Jałkiewicz, and our psychology and law graduate, Martyna Komorowska, won the 2nd place in the Best Advocate/Clinet category, in the International Negotiation and Mediation Tournament organized by the InterNational Academy of Dispute Resolution (INADR). The team was coached by Tomasz P. Antoszek, Ph.D., lecturer from our Faculty of Law and Communication in Poznań.

INADR Negotiation and Mediation Tournament

The mission of the InterNational Academy of Dispute Resolution is to build, through education, worldwide recognition of the power of dispute resolution processes to peacefully resolve conflicts and promote conciliation and healing.

Not only students, but also newly minted university alumni, who graduated no more than two years before the tournament, can participate in the INARD competitions. Therefore, the tournament provides an important educational function for practitioners of alternative methods of conflict resolution.

Tournaments of this kind are a great opportunity for our students and alumni to prove themselves in circumstances, which very closely resemble real mediation. It provides them with valuable experience of conducting negotiations and professional mediation, which translates into effectiveness and better career development.

Tomasz P. Antoszek, Ph.D., team coach, mediator, Head of the Department of Private Law at SWPS University in Poznań

INADR IN BIAŁYSTOK

This time, the tournament took place at the Faculty of Law of the University of Bialystok, in eastern Poland. Some of the previous locations included Chicago, Toronto, Kiev, Istanbul, and Athens. The language of the tournament was English. The format of the competition was rather demanding, because teams from four universities, two negotiation and two mediation teams, competed in one room. Mediators conducted co-mediation proceedings, which required additional competencies, indispensable for cooperation with another mediator.

The next edition of INADR will take place in Chicago.
