Strengthening commitment to volunteeringgeared towards refugees from Ukraine. Motivations of volunteers and intentions behind volunteering – the role of psychological and social factors.

The goal of the project is to build a holistic model of engagement in volunteering, taking into account both motivational factors and the significance of variables that so far have not been studied in a situation of helping people during wartime. The factors include severity of anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress symptoms, methods of coping with the stress of helping, mental hardiness, psychological capital and variables included in the theory of planned behavior.

After the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, thousands of people joined in helping refugees. The results of the project will allow us to understand what motived these volunteers and what psychological characteristics are associated with the motivation to help others. We will also assess how volunteering affected mental health of people who got engaged in providing help.

The goal of this project is to strengthen volunteer involvement and encourage people interested in volunteering to get involved. Thanks to the study we will learn what factors contribute to strong engagement in volunteering, plan initiatives conducive to supporting psychological wellbeing of the volunteers, and develop effective interventions for coping with volunteering stress and effective stress prophylaxes.

The project consists of various activities concerning volunteers and organizers of volunteering. These include our study, which apart from result publications and conference appearances, will provide guidance for applicable interventions and initiatives supporting volunteers.

Проект містить різні заходи, присвячені волонтерам та організаторам волонтерської діяльності.

Серед заходів – дослідження, результати якого будуть оприлюднені в публікаціях та на наукових конференціях. Крім того результати матимуть прикладне значення. Дослідження стосується наслідків надання допомоги біженцям війни з України щодо психічного здоров'я волонтерів. Він охоплює дослідження психологічних та соціальних детермінант особистісних налаштованостей волонтерської діяльності. Метою проєкту є побудова цілісної моделі залучення до волонтерства, яка враховує як мотиваційні чинники, так і важливість чинників, які раніше не вивчалися в ситуаціях допомоги людям у воєнний час. Зокрема досліджуватиметься міра вираженості симптомів тривоги, депресії та посттравматичного стресу; способи подолання стресу за умови підтримки, оцінка їхньої ефективності; психологічна стійкість; психологічний капітал та інші детермінанти згідно з теорією запланованої поведінки.

Метою є також приготування звіту, опертого на результати дослідження, лекцій з елементами тренінгів для представників організацій, що координують діяльність волонтерів та воркшопів для самих волонтерів, які відбулися як у Польщі, так і в Україні.

Результати дослідження слугуватимуть представникам неурядових організацій та органів місцевого самоврядування для побудови системи опіки та підтримки добробуту волонтерів. Крім того, результати стануть підґрунтям для діагностики налаштованостей і мотивів допомоги, як активних волонтерів, так і добровольців, осіб зацікавлених у волонтерстві. Результати стануть підтримкою рекрутерам під час набору волонтерів. Метою є також підготування методичних рекомендацій для організаторів волонтерських груп та волонтерів. Цей проект допоможе зміцнити довгострокову прихильність людей до волонтерства та матиме позитивний вплив на розвиток громадянського суспільства.
