Profile

Fabrizio Marongiu Buonaiuti is Full Professor of International Law at the Department of Law of the University of Macerata (Italy).

Academic Career

He earned his degree in law and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Rome "La Sapienza." He also holds an LL.M. from the University of Cambridge and has frequently participated in the summer courses at the Hague Academy of International Law. His academic appointments include:

  • Instructor of Private International Law, University of Rome "La Sapienza" (current)
  • Researcher in International Law, University of Rome "La Sapienza"
  • Program Director: Formerly served as the Director of the Graduate Program, "Research in Local Social Development and Cohesion"
  • Visiting Scholar, Swiss Institute of Comparative Law
  • Visiting Scholar, Institute for Foreign and International Private Law, University of Heidelberg
  • Visiting Scholar, Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law, Hamburg

Publications and Awards

He is the author of two monographs on private international law, the first of which was awarded the 2010 AiSDC Prize by the Association of Alumni and Friends of the Swiss Institute for Comparative Law. His extensive publication record also includes approximately ninety articles and essays spanning several core legal fields:

  • Private International Law
  • Public International Law (with a particular focus on State immunities and the protection of human rights)
  • European Union Law (including issues of migration law)
