Profile
Manos Savvakis is Professor of Sociology at the University of the Aegean (Greece). He has been teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level since 2007.
Research Interests
His research focuses on sociological theory, micro-sociology, research design, epistemology of applied social research, and qualitative methods, with particular interest in health, illness, disability, social exclusion and integration, and migration.
Research Projects
He wa the Principal Investigator in the ELIDEK-funded research project “Facing the Prospect of Long-Term Stay of Refugees and Immigrants in Greece” (2020–2022), which examined the demographic, social, and economic consequences of refugee and immigrant settlement in Greece.
Publications
His academic publications and editorial contributions include:
- Edited and co-edited volumes addressing the pandemic, disability, and the sociology of health
- Numerous books, including works on qualitative sociological research, ethics in the age of artificial intelligence, and the history of the Spinalonga leper colony
- Widely published papers in international and Greek journals, edited volumes, and conference proceedings
Academic Engagement
Since 2017, he has also taught in the Health Units Administration MA program as an adjunct professor at the Hellenic Open University.
