Profile

Michalis Poulimas is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of the Aegean. He holds a Master’s degree in Humanities and Social Sciences, specializing in Sociology (Society, Economy and Politics), from Université Paris Nanterre. He earned his Bachelor and Ph.D. degrees in Sociology from the Department of Sociology at the University of the Aegean.

Research and Publications

His research focuses on processes of social differentiation, the role of collective action in shaping and transforming social phenomena and social inequalities, and the organizational forms of social solidarity. His most recent research has been published in the books:

  • The “Refugee Issue” as a Stake of Social Conflicts in Greece: A Study of Refugee-Related, Solidarity-Based and Racist Collective Actions in Lesvos, Chios and Samos during the Period 2015–2020 (published in Greek by Athens: Nissos)
  • Inequalities, Youth and the Labour Market: NEETS in Southern Europe (published by Routledge)

Teaching

He teaches courses on:

  • Social solidarity and its organizational forms
