Center for Comparative Research on Memory Cultures (CCRM)

Institute of Humanities

The Center for Comparative Research on Memory Cultures (CCRMC) brings together scholars invested in interdisciplinary research in the fields of social sciences and humanities. The researcher apply cutting-edge methodologies to memory studies, visual culture studies and research on historical trauma, affect and ethnicity and nationalism. Head of the Center: Katarzyna Bojarska, Ph.D., researcher of cultural memory, visual culture and contemporary art.

What we do

Scope and objectives

The Centre’s academic activities are part of rapidly growing international interdisciplinary field of memory studies. One of our primary goals is to initiate and develop new creative theories of memory, and build and strengthen relations between science, culture and the arts, where academic research will be creatively used and stimulated by activities in the field of culture and the arts.

We believe that artistic and activist practices in the field of memory should be treated as manifestations of critical interventions, which can also significantly contribute to the body of knowledge. We also wish to participate in the public debate on memory, taking into account the voices of scholars, but also of those involved in culture and the arts who work in administration, education and the media. The Centre is part of the network of Memory Studies Research Centers affiliated at the Memory Studies Association.
