Research scope and implementation:
Coordinator: John Nezlek, Ph.D. / Associate Professor
The aim of the 4CAST Center is to support social engagement for the climate based on integrated cooperation among science, local governments, business, and non-governmental organizations. The primary research areas include:
- social engagement in climate action
- methods of social interventions related to climate change mitigation,
- prosociality
- adaptation to new environmental conditions.
Education and social innovations in climate and sustainable development
Coordinator: Marzena Cypryańska-Nezlek, Ph.D. / Assistant Professor
Researchers from the 4CAST Center develop tools and evaluate programs for universal climate education. They are also personally involved in popularization of knowledge about these topics. The goal of the social innovation programs is to generate and support innovative social engagement programs for climate mitigation and adaptation, and to support the development of social change leader networks (in collaboration with NGOs and local governments). We pursue this goal through providing educational activities for students from SWPS University.
Resilient cities
Coordinator: Martyna Obarska, M.A.
We develop applied and educational programs that teach communities how to develop climate-resilient neighborhoods, including climate-resilient university campuses. The goal of the program is not only to test model solutions but also to educate the public about the mechanisms and solutions of a resilient city.
Mental health and psychological support for persons experiencing climate anxiety
Coordinator: Joanna Gutral-Sutherland, Ph.D. / Assistant Professor
People live in the surrounding them natural environment, therefore any significant changes to this environment impact their quality of life and well-being. We carry out research projects focused on climate-related mental health issues, and implement psychological intervention programs that counteract climate anxiety. For example we offer psychoeducational and preventive and corrective programs concerning the impact of climate change on mental health. We also organize education sessions and carry out other activities popularizing knowledge on this topic.
