Icy Galaxy

Icy Galaxy is a food grade silicone mold for making sphere-shaped ice balls for cooling beverages and enhancing the aesthetic experience of users. The designers of Icy Galaxy, Ladan Zadfar and Mohammad Farshad – students of SWPS University’s School of Form, have managed to achieve something impossible, like putting a round peg into a square hole. They have managed to improve on a tried and true square ice cube, by designing a spherical ice mold with spiral indentations that evoke the Milky Way. Apart from being beautiful, Icy Galaxy offers a larger cooling surface, which shortens the cooling time of a liquid, and requires less energy to achieve the frozen state. Additionally, the mold uses much less water to achieve the same cooling effect as the traditional ice cube.

Furthermore, the Icy Galaxy mold is multipurpose. Apart from producing space-inspired ice shapes, it can be used to make fancy chocolates, worthy of the Willy Wonka factory, or light as air patisserie cakes.

School of Form - Unique Design School

The philosophy of School of Form revolves around human-centered design that tries to understand people and meet their needs. At School of Form we teach human-centered design. Students not only learn how to design products, but also how to make them in different technologies, and prepare them manufacturing. They also acquire some business skills and learn how to network with business partners.
