About the Event
Welcome to the webpage for the 19th Annual Meeting of the Polish Social Psychological Society! We are delighted to announce that the event is scheduled to take place in Katowice from September 19 to 21, 2024.
Keynote lectures will be delivered by:
- Professor Anjan Chatterjee, Professor of Neurology, Psychology, and Architecture; Director of Penn Center for Neuroaesthetics at the University of Pennsylvania – Art, Architecture, and Human Wellbeing
- Professor Dariusz Doliński, Head of the Department of Social Psychology at SWPS University's Faculty of Psychology in Wrocław – Konflikt unikanie-unikanie jako model wyjaśniający posłuszeństwo w paradygmacie Milgrama (Avoidance-Avoidance Conflict as a Model Explaining Obedience in the Milgram Paradigm)
- Professor Roland Imhoff, Professor of Social and Legal Psychology at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz – On Lumping and Splitting: What Determines How We Categorize Our Social Ecology?
During the meeting, we will discuss the latest research findings in social psychology and related fields. Topics include social influence, conspiracy theories, close relationships, psychological well-being, and the long-term consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event will be accompanied by summer school for early-stage researchers.

Poster format
Design your poster in portrait orientation, size B1 (70.7 x 100 cm). As the conference has an international audience, please prepare your poster in English.
Presentation format
Prepare your presentation as a PowerPoint file (.ppt or .pptx) or PDF file, suitable for viewing in PowerPoint.
Oral presentations are scheduled for 15 minutes, followed by a 5-minute discussion, while BLITZ presentations are scheduled for 7 minutes, followed by a 3-minute discussion.
The language of each presentation (Polish or English) is indicated in the program next to the session title. Please prepare your presentation in the language of the respective session.
Practical Information
Venue
The meeting will take place at the Faculty of Psychology in Katowice, SWPS University, located at ul. Techników 9. The university is easily accessible from the city center; there is a bus stop nearby. We also encourage you to consider using shared bikes, which are available for rent at various locations in Katowice and can be parked near the university.

Especially for the participants of the PSPS meeting, the IBIS Budget Hotel (next to the Novotel Hotel, where the gala dinner will take place) has reserved a block of rooms at discounted prices. To secure this discount, please book a room via the following link

We recommend that you book your accommodation soon, as most hotel rooms will not be available on the day of the meeting. Katowice is the European City of Science this year, therefore numerous events will take place in the city.
Katowice city tour
Join us for a guided tour of Nikiszowiec, a historic district in Katowice, built in 1912 and known for its unique red-brick architecture. This is a great opportunity to experience the atmosphere of Upper Silesia and learn how miners who came to Katowice for work once lived. We will meet at 17:45 in front of the main entrance to the SWPS University building. The tour will end around 19:30 near the Novotel Hotel, just in time for the gala dinner. Sign up for the tour

Attention all aspiring researchers in psychology and related fields! Join us for an exciting two-day summer school designed especially for you.
This is an open invitation to students in their final years of graduate studies, those currently working on their doctoral dissertations, and individuals who have earned their doctoral degree within the last seven years (including career breaks, as per National Science Center guidelines).
Date: September 17-18
Venue: Faculty of Psychology in Katowice, SWPS University
The program includes three workshops in English. The first day kicks off with a full-day workshop, followed by two shorter sessions on the second day.

Workshop 1: What Comes After Ph.D.? Career Development Workshop
Join us to explore career opportunities for psychology Ph.D. graduates, including international options. We will discuss the pros and cons of various paths and equip you with the tools to plan your career. You will learn how to engage in international projects, establish global contacts, prepare for postdoc interviews, and develop key competencies. We will also cover stress management in academia.
Workshop leader: Mariola Paruzel-Czachura, Ph.D. / Associate Professor at the University of Silesia in Katowice, a psychologist and philosopher who has completed postdocs at the Complutense University of Madrid and the University of Pennsylvania.

Workshop 2: Engaging Communities through Participatory Action Research
This workshop offers a comprehensive introduction to Participatory Action Research (PAR), a collaborative research approach designed to involve community members directly in the research process. PAR emphasizes collective inquiry and experimentation grounded in experience and social history. The workshop aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to implement PAR in their own communities or fields of interest.
During the workshop you will understand the principles and philosophy of Participatory Action Research, learn about the history and evolution of PAR, and explore various methodologies and techniques used in PAR.
Workshop leader: Małgorzata Wójcik, Ph.D. / Assistant Professor, Vice-Dean for Student Affairs at SWPS University's Faculty of Psychology in Katowice and psychologist researching dynamics of peer groups.
Workshop 3: Developing Research Skills with Particular Emphasis on Research Planning Skills
Workshop leader: Professor Anjan Chattejee, Professor of Neurology, Psychology, and Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania and director of the Penn Center for Neuroaesthetics.
The fee is PLN 220 (including tax) and includes access to the workshops and a daily lunch. Please note that accommodation is not provided.
