Profile

Professor Marek Piechowiak is a lawyer and a philosopher, who specializes in philosophy of law and in international and constitutional protection of human rights.

He worked for the Poznań Human Rights Center at the Institute of Law Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences (ILS PAS) and was the first Commissioner for Children’s Rights in Poland, when the position was established in 2000.

Professor Piechowiak continued his professional education and completed research fellowships at various institutions, including: the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIAS), the Hague Academy of International Law, the Netherlands Institute of Human Rights (SIM), the International Institute of Human Rights in Strasbourg, and at the Human Rights Directorate by the Council of Europe. He was Visiting Professor at Radboud University in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, Utrecht University, the University of Milan, University of Cagliari, and the National School of Public Administration in Warsaw.

He authored over 120 academic articles published in Polish and international journals.

At the Faculty of Psychology and Law in Poznań, he lectures in constitutional law, human rights, and theory and philosophy of law. At SWPS University in Warsaw, he teaches axiology of law and philosophy to doctoral students.
