SWPS University’s Doctoral Seminars - Our Difference
Our program prepares doctoral students for carrying out research and supports them in their pursuit of a doctorate in psychology in the external/extramural mode. The program has been designed to provide doctoral candidates with a solid subject-matter and methodological background. It supports multifaceted development and ensures that students gain knowledge, skills and competencies indispensable in the process of obtaining a doctoral degree, while working with renowned researchers.
If you wish to pursue an doctoral degree in psychology at SWPS University, in the external/extramural mode, please contact us. However, please be aware that our external/extramural doctorates in psychology require a huge time commitment and are addressed to individuals who wish to embark on research or research-teaching careers, rather than those whose current jobs are very demanding and time consuming.

Modules
You will complete the required modules by collaborating with researchers who work in our research centers aligned with SWPS University’s Institute of Psychology. You will participate in various research activities carried out by the research centers, take part in summer schools, conferences, courses teaching specific knowledge and skills such as copyright and research ethics. You will write and submit grant applications, prepare and publish academic articles. You will also teach classes to university students. You can complete the required modules at any campus of SWPS University in Poland.

Commitment to doctoral education
Please be aware that from the very beginning you will be required to fully engage in research related not only to your own projects, but also other projects carried out by our research centers. Moreover, you will also have to teach classes to university students. Our external/extramural doctorates are addressed to individuals who wish to embark on research or research-teaching careers, rather than those whose current jobs are very demanding and time consuming.

Learning outcomes
Poland’s Ministry of Education and Science (MEiN) requires doctoral candidates to achieve educational outcomes known as Level 8 of the Polish Qualifications Framework. The education package offered by our doctoral seminars enables doctoral students to reach and verify the educational outcomes and, subsequently, begin the process leading to obtaining a doctoral degree at SWPS University.

Procedure to obtain a doctoral degree
Once you are granted a certificate confirming that you have archived the learning outcomes, known as level 8th of the Polish Qualifications Framework (PQF), you must submit a request to the Institute of Psychology to begin the procedure, which leads to obtaining a doctoral degree.

Review detailed rules and regulations
- Contact your chosen research advisor.
- Fill in the Application Form.
(September 4 to October 27, 2023) - Submit copies of the required documents to the Office of the Doctoral School (September 4 to October 27, 2023).
- Write an exam and attend an interview (by November 10, 2023).
- Wait for the admission announcement (by November 20, 2023)
Required
documents
- personal information form – print out the completed form from the Application Portal
- written request to be admitted to the doctoral program, including a motivational letter, addressed to the Director of the Institute of Psychology
- proposal of a research project, written in English, signed by a potential research supervisor and the head of the selected research center
- personal plan outlining the way you intend to achieve the educational outcomes known as Level 8 of the Polish Qualifications Framework (PQF) in the discipline of psychology, signed by the potential research supervisor and the head of the selected research center
- Master’s degree diploma, including a diploma supplement or a university transcript, and a confirmation of your Grade Point Average (GPA)
- documents confirming your achievements, as defined in the admission requirements
- your declaration confirming that you have read and understood the Admission Requirements concerning your participation in our education modules, and the Rules and Regulations concerning participation in education modules for persons who intend to submit an application to pursue an external/extramural doctorate.
