Professor Agnieszka Popiel is a psychiatrist, psychotherapist (PTTPB, SITCC, EABCT), and a psychotherapy supervisor (PTTPB). In her clinical practice, research and teaching she specializes in evidence based psychotherapy, psychopathology and treatment of mental disorders.
Her clinical and research work focuses on treatments of posttraumatic stress disorder, in particular the efficacy, effectiveness and predictors of outcome. She is Co-chair of a clinical program TRAKT devoted to studies on the efficacy of PTSD treatments in victims of car accidents.
Professor Popiel is a Member of the Working Group for Training Standards of the European Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies (EABCT). She is also the founder and former President of the Polish Association for Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy (1999-2005, 2007-2009), a National Representative at EABCT (since 2000), a member of several scientific committees, including the EABCT Congresses in Prague (2003) and Marrakech (2013), and the International Scientific Support Group for the World Congress of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies in Berlin 2019.
Over the years, she has led many workshops, training and clinical supervision session in Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, and Romania.
Professor Popiel is the author of numerous congress presentations, articles, book chapters and books. She is a co-author of a handbook Cognitive-Behavioral Psychotherapy. Theory and practice (2008), and a co-editor of a handbook Supervision in CBT (2013). She also co-authored a protocol of a PTSD prevention program for the treatment of work related trauma.
At SWPS University Professor Popiel is the Chair of a 4-year postgraduate program in cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy and the Clinical Director of the SWPS University Clinic of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy.
