The Department of Social Psychology comprises academics who teach and carry out research in social psychology, cross-cultural psychology and related disciplines.
All first year students participate in a Fundamentals of Social Psychology course delivered by our department. During our lectures and workshops, we present basic concepts in social psychology, teach how to use this knowledge in practical applications, how to carry out research, and what the research profession is all about.
We conduct thesis seminars (undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral), teaching our students the ropes of the psychologist and researcher professions.
To our 4th year students, we offer:
- Applied Social Psychology specialization
Students learn about advanced social psychology research and theories and practice skills indispensable in carrying out their own research projects and applying their knowledge in practice. As part of this specialization, we teach:
- how to conduct training and personal development sessions
- crisis and conflict understanding and management
- psychology of love
- psychology of politics, power and leadership.
- Cross-cultural psychology
Students learn about the impact of culture and migrations on thinking, emotions and human behavior. This helps to shape cultural sensitivity, which is indispensable for working in multicultural environment or with clients hailing from different cultures. As part of the specialization, we teach:
- cultural factors that shape attitudes, norms, values, and behavior
- cross-cultural management and leadership
- acculturation and its diagnosis (including conducting culture-fit interviews)
- leading cross-cultural competencies training
- classes on East Asian and African cultures.
Under the umbrella of cross-cultural studies, we also offer a graduate program Global MINDS (European Master in the Psychology of Global Mobility, Inclusion and Diversity in Society). It is a two-year program in English offered by an Erasumus+ consortium, which includes four European universities: University of Oslo in Norway, ISCTE in Portugal, University of Limerick in Ireland, and SWPS University.
