What will you learn?

SWPS University is among top universities offering English Studies programs in Poland.

English is the most popular language in the world. Therefore, despite technological developments, proficiency in this language is a valuable skill not only for English language or literature scholars, but for anyone in any profession. Our undergraduate program focuses on practical skills that will provide you with a solid foundation for any career or further education path you choose to pursue after graduation.

During the course of study you will:

  • Rapidly improve your English skills to achieve CEFR C1 level, thanks to intensive practical language and grammar classes
  • Learn about linguistics, phonetics, and phonology
  • Read and analyze important works of English and American literature, culture, and history
  • Practice your academic writing skills, which will also serve you well in creative or business-related professions
  • Use the latest Computer Assisted Translation Tools (CAT) and practice interpreting skills in a Simultaneous Interpretation Lab (translation study track).
  • Study in a friendly, multicultural environment that will contribute to your English skills development and cross-cultural competencies both in the classroom and beyond.

Focus on your interests

Towards the end of the first year, you will choose one of four study tracks that will allow you to focus your interests and help to pursue your future career goals.

Please note: Each year the particular study tracks are made available based on the number of declarations of choice submitted by students in the second semester. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that all study tracks will be initiated for the year of your admission.

English teacher

Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)

TEFL study track prepares students for a teaching profession in a variety of educational contexts, such as: different courses, tutoring, language schools, or in the longer perspective (of M.A. studies) public schools. Students become familiar with the theory and practice of TEFL also with the use of ICT based techniques. Additionally, during teaching internships, they gain valuable practical experience in the classroom.

English Studies for Media and Creative Industries

This study track allows students to unleash their creativity and linguistic skills in the context the dynamically evolving media and creative sectors. We focus on topics that combine language, culture, and modern media. Students explore various discourses of contemporary culture, master the use of creative language, and develop expert analytical skills in the area of language data analysis and visualization. Graduates are prepared for diverse roles in journalism, publishing, digital content creation, public relations, and careers in cultural institutions, leveraging their linguistic expertise to shape narratives and engage audiences in an ever-evolving globalized world

English Studies for Business Environment

This study track provides students with the linguistic and analytical tools essential for corporate success. They learn specialized business language, terminology management skills, and analytical capabilities. These skills enable seamless interactions in multilingual professional settings. Graduates of the program are prepared for careers in international business, marketing, human resources, corporate communications, and project management.

Translation Studies – (Polish/English Translation)

Translation Studies focus on translation theory and practice and on intensive language skills development. All courses are taught by experienced translators and linguists. Students become familiar with the requirements of general and specialized translation. They practice various translation methods and techniques employed in written and oral translation. All translation courses are developed in accordance with the guidelines of the European Union’s Directorate-General for Translation.
PLEASE NOTE: We focus on English to Polish and Polish to English translation, therefore you must be fluent in Polish to select this track.

Admission
Requirements

  • Secondary school/high-school diploma (a translator-signed translation of the diploma into English or Polish is required if the diploma was issued in a language other than Polish, English, Russian, and Ukrainian).
  • Medical insurance policy or a declaration of enrollment in Poland's National Health Fund.
  • English proficiency certificate:
    • CEFR B2 (see the Documents Section to the right for the list of acceptable certificates).
    • Holders of the Polish secondary school diploma (matura): basic level – minimum 85%, extended level – minimum 60%.

Application fee in the amount of PLN 85.00 should be paid via PayU while submitting university application through the Application Portal

The application fee is non-refundable unless: the program of study that you applied to has been cancelled (except when you decide to enroll in a different program of study at SWPS University).
