Learning practical skills
We teach future experts in culture, philologists, translators, foreign language teachers, journalists, media specialists and experts in social communication and image creation. Our students gain knowledge and skills which they will be able to successfully apply in various career paths. Future philologists take advantage of professional simultaneous interpreting booths as well as “The translator,” a website prepared especially for SWPS University. Students passionate about Asian languages use our multimedia Oriental book collection. Journalism students work in our specialist broadcasting studios and learn from the best practitioners in the industry. Students of cultural studies, in turn, carry out research projects and design services and innovations under the supervision of experts from our partner institutions.
High-ranking philology studies
In the course of studies in the field of philology, students acquire much more than broad linguistic competence. They learn about the culture, literature and history of the given language area. Extended programmes involving the study of two foreign languages, for example English and Chinese, are very popular with applicants. The curriculum contains numerous practical subjects and enables students to choose a specialization track tailored to their interests and professional plans. Classes are taught by an international team of qualified teachers, translators and methodologists using the latest information technologies such as interactive whiteboards and cutting-edge computer-assisted translation tools.
According to the 2021 ranking of the “Perspektywy” magazine, SWPS University is among the top three universities in Poland offering pogrammes in the field of English Studies.
Cultural studies
Our cultural studies programme is addressed to creative, enterprising people who are interested in the world of culture and would like to work in the creative industries. The curricula offered within this field are rooted in the tradition of critical cultural studies and are very interdisciplinary in nature. Among others, studies in this field include the School of Ideas where we teach project work and practical applications of cultural expertise.
Unique Asian Studies
We have developed an original Asian studies programme which consists of practical knowledge of contemporary East Asia, the latest cultural and social trends, the different ways of functioning in the business environment of this region as well as intensive study of one of the three Asian languages: Chinese, Korean or Japanese. Our students gain knowledge and skills that are highly sought after on the international job market due to their exclusive nature.
Journalism - working with the leading media
We teach print, radio, television and online journalism in collaboration with editors from leading media companies. The programme is dominated by workshops with the participation of renowned practitioners: journalists, PR and communication specialists, experts in image creation, marketing and advertising. We have entered into cooperation agreements with the largest and most authoritative daily newspapers - "Gazeta Wyborcza" and “Rzeczpospolita," as well as the TVN media company where our students complete internships and work placements. Under the guidance of major experts in the industry, students carry out original projects which later make up their professional portfolios.
