Explore the work of Szymon Szymankiewicz, one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Polish poster art. His solo exhibition at SWPS University in Wrocław presents a selection of works that reflect his bold, socially engaged approach to design.
A powerful voice in poster art
Szymon Szymankiewicz, born in 1985 in Łódź, uses his minimalist, color-conscious style to tackle pressing social and political issues. His posters respond directly to current events, often using familiar symbols to deliver sharp, often humorous, commentary. Unafraid to engage with controversial topics, he addresses themes such as women's rights, LGBTQ+ discrimination, religious indoctrination, war, and climate change. At the heart of his work lies a commitment to values such as freedom, equality, and respect for persons. The direct, unembellished message of his posters confronts the viewer with reality and forces them to take a stand. As the artist himself puts it, “A good poster is one that moves.”
