Artists Labour Market, Cultural Policy and Creative Economy

Artists Labour Market, Cultural Policy and Creative Economy

In the dynamic landscape of the creative economy, understanding the intricacies of the labor market is crucial. In Artists Labour Market, Cultural Policy and Creative Economy: A Triangular Model in Poland, Prof. Dorota Ilczuk, Anna Karpińska, and Dr. Emilia Cholewicka from SWPS University, identify essential components for understanding modern labor markets in the global creative and cultural sectors. Based on extensive research spanning a decade and focusing primarily on Polish artists, this book provides insight into the environment of the creative and cultural industries.

Insights into the creative economy

Artists Labour Market, Cultural Policy and Creative Economy. A Triangular Model in Poland is the result of analytical and research work initially carried out by three cultural economists: Prof. Dorota Ilczuk, Anna Karpińska, and Dr. Emilia Cholewicka. Their collective analysis is based on extensive research projects initiated and supervised by Prof. Ilczuk between 2012 and 2022. The book brings together the multifaceted issue of artists in the labor market, which is examined from several angles. First, it contextualizes the issue within established findings in cultural economics. Second, it considers the evolving landscape of cultural policies, market dynamics, and global shifts that affect artists in particular. Finally, it provides a temporal perspective, spanning a decade of Prof. Ilczuk's research initiatives.

Our book is encapsulated by the sentence in the introduction: We are – driven by research passion, but we also strongly feel the need to change the situation of artists... for the better. Additionally, we advocate for artistic labor markets that are free, but not unrestricted.
