A distinguished honor for SWPS University’s scholar
The Council for Scientific Excellence was established in 2008, succeeding the Central Commission for Degrees and Titles. Professor Bronisław Sitek served as the last secretary of the Commission and also held the position of secretary of the Council during its first term. In the recent council election, Prof. Sitek secured 313 votes, leading to his appointment as Chairman. He will serve in this role for the Council's second term, from 2024 to 2027.
Professor Bronislaw Sitek: Acclaimed legal scholar
Professor Bronisław Sitek is a distinguished legal counsel and an expert in Roman and civil law. He completed his theological and philosophical studies at the Primate’s Major Seminary (Prymasowskie Wyższe Seminarium Duchowne) in Gniezno, and legal studies at the Faculty of Canon Law at the Academy of Catholic Theology in Warsaw (now: Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw). Additional studies in Rome, Bari, and Munich enriched his knowledge. In 2007, he achieved the title of Professor of Law.
Professor Sitek conducted research at the University of South Africa in Pretoria, where his Polish doctoral degree underwent the nostrification process, establishing its validity in Commonwealth countries. Furthermore, he received research grants from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for the years 1999-2003 and 2005.
Since 2003, Prof. Sitek has been a lecturer in an international doctoral program in Bari. In October 2014, he joined the Faculty of Law in Warsaw at SWPS University, where he teaches Roman law, civil law, family law, and legal protection of state rights and interests in comparative legal perspective.
Professor Sitek authored nearly 300 research papers. He organized and actively participated in numerous Polish and international scientific conferences. He is also a member of many scientific organizations in Poland and abroad. Professor Sitek's outstanding contributions have earned him prestigious awards, rector's prizes, and national decorations. In 2022, he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Rzeszów.
