Dr. Tadek Markiewicz, Alfred Landecker Lecturer at SWPS University’s Institute of Social Sciences, has been selected for the Spotlight Scholar program organized by the Interpretive Methodologies and Methods Group in the American Political Science Association.
Recognition for innovative research in politics
The Spotlight Scholars Program brings international visibility to promising scholars whose work deepens our understanding of politics through interpretive and qualitative approaches. Each year, three early-career researchers are selected to join the program. Awardees receive mentorship from leading scholars, present their work publicly, and become part of a dynamic network committed to advancing innovative interpretive research worldwide.
I am very happy about this recognition and the acknowledgement of my research. For years, I have been developing interpretive methodological tools in my publications. Building on the best practices established by interpretivist scholars, I show how these approaches can be applied in practice to the study of states. The program gives me the opportunity to work with Prof. Anastasia Shesterinina (University of York), who is not only one of the leading experts on comparative research on contemporary armed conflicts, but also has extensive experience in conducting fieldwork.
