We are proud to announce that an arcticle by Dr. Justyna Berniak-Woźny, Dr. Magdalena Kubów, Dr. Agnieszka Młodzińska-Granek, and Professor Mariusz Wszołek from SWPS University has been published in the UN Global Compact Network Poland Yearbook. The paper discusses the challenges related to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from an academic perspective. The article was edited by Zuzanna Jakubik, Sustainable Development Manager at SWPS University.
Sustainable Development Goals – how to implement them?
During this year’s UN DAY 2025 Gala, the “Yearbook 2025” published by the UN Global Compact Network Poland had its official premiere. The publication summarizes the actions, projects, and initiatives carried out within the framework of UN GCNP programs. The articles featured in the report highlight the wide range of activities undertaken by companies and institutions in support of the 2030 Agenda — a 15-year action plan aimed at ending extreme poverty, reducing inequalities and injustices, and ensuring lasting protection for our planet by 2030.
The publication by experts from SWPS University offers insights into three selected Sustainable Development Goals included in the 2030 Agenda:
- quality education (SDG 4)
- gender equality (SDG 5)
- responsible consumption and production (SDG 12).
The authors provide a detailed discussion of specific challenges, such as educational inequalities, social and cultural barriers to gender equality, and the inefficiency of existing consumption models. They also present concrete solutions that are being implemented in academic and research practice, as well as through collaboration with the socio-economic community.
In their work, they emphasize that achieving selected Sustainable Development Goals is a complex task. The authors point out that education requires a fundamental transformation – not only in terms of content but also in teaching methods, taking into account contemporary social and technological issues. The pursuit of gender equality still encounters structural obstacles, primarily in the science and business sectors, which requires comprehensive, systemic actions and innovative initiatives. In turn, the idea of responsible consumption and production entails a shift in approach to the design and use of goods, as well as educating society in the spirit of more informed and sustainable decisions. The authors emphasize that effective implementation of these goals is only possible through interdisciplinary collaboration and close partnership between the scientific, business, and social communities.
The arcticle was created as part of cooperation between SWPS University and UN Global Compact Network Poland.
