SWPS University is honored to host Professor Anjan Chatterjee for a lecture and academic workshops focused on neuroaesthetics—an emerging discipline within cognitive neuroscience concerned with understanding the biological bases of aesthetic experiences.
Professor Chatterjee is a distinguished scholar in the fields of neurology, psychology, and architecture and the founding director of the Penn Center for Neuroaesthetics at the University of Pennsylvania. In his lecture and workshops, he will explore the impact of aesthetics on human well-being and how scientific research can shed light on our perception and appreciation of beauty. During the second workshop, Prof. Chatterjee will offer some advice on writing research papers.

This workshop will explore the automatic and unconscious attraction to beauty and its social implications. Professor Chatterjee will discuss how aesthetic and moral values can intersect, sometimes leading to significant social consequences.

The lecture will explore how art and architecture affect human well-being and suggest practical applications to improve our interactions with the built environment. The lecture is part of the 19th Annual Meeting of Polish Social Psychological Society.

Tailored for early-career researchers and trainees, this workshop will provide valuable insights into approaching research projects and writing scientific essays. Professor Chatterjee will share strategies for structuring research papers and tips on writing effectively in English.

Anjan Chatterjee
Professor
Anjan Chatterjee is a Professor of Neurology, Psychology, and Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania, where he serves as the director of the Penn Center for Neuroaesthetics. He is the author of The Aesthetic Brain: How We Evolved to Desire Beauty and Enjoy Art, and over 500 scientific publications cited over 22,000 times. Additionally, he co-edited Neuroethics in Practice: Mind, Medicine, and Society and The Roots of Cognitive Neuroscience: Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychology. Professor Chatterjee's remarkable contributions have been recognized through awards such as the Norman Geschwind Prize in Behavioral and Cognitive Neurology and the Rudolph Arnheim Prize for contribution to Psychology and the Arts. He is a founding member of the Board of Governors of the Neuroethics Society, the past President of the International Association of Empirical Aesthetics, and the past President of the Behavioral and Cognitive Neurology Society. Furthermore, he serves on the Boards of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia.
