SWPS University recently hosted a prestigious nationwide seminar for Chinese language teachers. Organized by the Beijing-based Center for Language Education and Cooperation, this event stands out as the only annual gathering of its kind in Poland.
Embracing modern methods in language education
The rapid development of new technologies brings numerous challenges, driving the need for changes in education, including foreign language teaching. This year's seminar for Chinese language teachers, held on December 1, focused on innovative methods in language pedagogy, with a particular emphasis on tools such as ChatGPT.
The event attracted 55 lecturers from universities across Poland. Professor Marcin Jacoby, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities in Warsaw, delivered the opening speech. Other distinguished speakers included Yi Jun from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of Poland and Ding Xiangru from the Center for Language Education and Cooperation in Beijing.
Esteemed guests from China, including Professor Shi Jinsheng from Beijing Normal University and Professor Zhong Yinghua, President of the International Society for Chinese Language Teaching, gave captivating lectures. The seminar was coordinated by Yu Wenting, a lecturer at SWPS University, with the support of members of the Asian Studies Student Research Club.
The event was co-organized by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation, the Chinese Ministry of Education, and the Confucius Institute at Jagiellonian University.
